Big box collecting

First big box game buy

Feeding my unhealthy, new found obsession with MS-Dos game collecting and big box releases, also dat incubation box art!

Funny enough this started out exploring for a copy of Dream Web, a game that I played when I was a kid, it had an interesting soundtrack, all these listings are from one eBay seller, I even had a game thrown in for free.

Second big box game buy

I'm waiting for it to get out of hand, in my second run, I got Sim Mania, In Pursuit of Greed, which is a SoftDisk Publishing game. - The precursor to id Software (or where the guys started at), and a Starship Troopers game that I have never heard of or seen before, but my friend was very interested in it.

I was chasing down forsaken, recently there was a remaster released of it, but I went and picked this one up after an episode of LGR.

They just don't make them like they used to.

Third big box game buy

I joined a big box collecting group on Facebook, and the prices were immediately cheaper, so the key to good value is to buy from other collectors.

This was after reading a post about Ken Williams, the founder of Sierra, who frequently appraises boxes in collector groups on Facebook, confirming that they are in fact legitimate.

Flea market discs

I went to a flea market, just picked anything out of the trash, these Aztec CDs will be an interesting archaeological inspection they contain shareware and very early mods, potentially some have been lost to time, so they will end up on archive.org.

The Sims games plus the expansions

I found a bunch of The Sims games plus the expansions.

Magazine games

I see more magazine games to investigate.

Ultima 4

Sword of Aragon

StarTrack

Now on to a really good find, this was at a local thrift shop, Ultima 4, minus the cloth map, and Sword of Aragon, for the IBM PC and a cool poster, and a StarTrack game were amongst this month's finds.

So why collect big boxes in current year?

I've come to gain appreciation for the ways of yesteryear, back when you could buy software and it was complete and none of this downloading patches bullshit, I like floppy discs there's something physical about them.

My plans moving forward, I think I'll have to set up some sort of gallery to document my collection as it continues to grow, I will also have a justification to have really old computers around, after all I need something to run those 5- and 1/4-inch discs on.

Another website I want to mention in this post is Big Box Collection, perhaps one day my collection will be as big as this person, I'm more impressed with the fact that they' wrote their own web framework to display big boxes in 3D in the browser, and it's a good reference point, they seem to be very passionate about what they're doing.

I'm sorry this is a bit of a nonsensical post I'm just happy to be passionate about something for a change.
