Announcing Quake `nam!
Sunday 24th September 2019
I took a unit on 3D Modelling and Animation this semester, mostly because I am out of development units to take, but I also figured that this could help feed my game development hobby, or habit, depending on which way you look at it.
So, I've gotten to spend what little free time I have learning Autodesk 3DS Max 2018, as I got a student licence.
Given my past experience using Misfit Model 3D, I feel right at home with the software, other than the time it takes to load itself up, (and I think that's probably more to do with the licence server), the professional software has a lot more complexity behind it, but it doesn't feel like I could easily screw up what I'm working on, for the most part it seems pretty stable, I did lose Internet the other night for a brief period and for whatever reason, 3DS Max 2018 struggled (again, I want to blame the licence server), it also has higher system requirements, but I want to say that's more to do with the output renderer, which is something I don't really think about much in comparison to Misfit Model 3D.
Misfit Model 3D is a little bit jank on Windows 10, so I need to investigate and see if I can find a newer version of the software.
The howitzer cannon and the phantom jet fighter were made for the animation, I'm not going to lie it was rushed, and rather crude, not my best work, but I was under a lot of time pressure.
But anyway, here is the output of that labour of love...
Thinking I will probably use blender for the cutscenes in the future, but I want to reuse some of the models that I made in this animation for a Quake `Nam mod. - note that not all the models used in this video are my own, they were downloaded freely off the Internet. - I had intended to make my own but came under heavy time constraints.
For the Grease Gun it was not that hard to make, because of their simple geometry, but I think my m3a1 looks pretty neat! 😎
Anyway, I guess I just unofficially announced that I'm working on a Vietnam Quake mod, I have spun-up a ModDB page here.
Working on it has been a great distraction from the amount of work and stress that I have been under lately.
